The Mooretown Flags opened the home portion of its PJHL season with a 4-1 win over Walpole Island before 384 fans at the Moore Sports Complex.

Carson Crawford scored twice for the Flags with the others going to Caleb Rosseel and Josh Hazzard. Ryan Vidler had two assists Sept. 13.

John Chartrand stopped 28 of 29 in the Flags crease. It was Chartrand’s 53 career goaltending victory with Mooretown just six shy of the all-time mark held by Jake Wilkins. Former Flags under-18 player Nate Harris had the lone goal for the Wild.

Mooretown is 1-1 on the young season. Walpole drops to 0-3.

Chartrand and Ethan Dunbar both surrendered four goals on the night combining to make 34 saves.

The Flags are on the road this week for games in Lakeshore tonight (Friday) and at Blenheim on Sunday. Mooretown’s next home game is against Dresden on Sept. 27.
