Senior’s condos planned for former Sarnia school site

The St. Clair District Catholic School Board has sold a now-empty Sarnia school for $2.2 million to a seniors housing developer.
The St. Clair District Catholic School Board announced Friday it has sold Sacred Heart Catholic School on Lecaron Ave. property to Gold Leaf Properties.
The Sacred Heart students merged with the Gregory A. Hogan school at the beginning of this school year in a refurbished school on the Rapids Parkway as the board staff was working in the background to sell the former school.
The building was declared surplus to the board in 2024 and the Ministry of Education gave approval to sell the building on the open market in January 2025. The property was listed at $1.8 million and five offers were received.
Gold Leaf was the winning bid at $2,205,000 and the deal was finalized Aug. 15.
The Kerwood-based company already has a presence in Lambton with a one-floor rental condo project in Petrolia and is working on another in the Wyoming area.
Gold Leaf officials said it will take some time to go through the planning and construction process but confirm the school will be torn down to make way for the condominium project.
