An Anishinabek police officer was injured during the brief standoff in Kettle Point Saturday morning.
Acting Chief of the Anishinabek Police Service, Julie Craddock, said an officer was stabbed.
Around 10:25 Saturday morning, OPP and Anishinabek Police responded to an incident involving “an armed man” in Kettle Point. Anishinabeck Police said the incident was contained to a residence.
Police ordered people shelter-in-place but the order was lifted by 11 am when the person was taken into police custody.
Craddock, in a statement posted on social media, said an officer “was seriously injured as a result of being slashed in the face by a suspect, who then barricaded themselves in a residence with a shotgun.”
The officer has been treated and released.
“Miigwech to our Ontario Provincial Police partners who quickly deployed significant resources to assist our officer and to get the suspect into custody, and to EMS for their expert care and response,” she said.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers potentially encounter every time they don their uniform, often facing unpredictable situations,” said Craddock, thanking the officers for their service.
