Grand Bend bridge open to boats again

Boats can once again travel under the Ontario Street Bridge in Grand Bend.
Lambton Shores is working on a two-year project to widen the bridge for two lanes of traffic. Starting in September, McLean Taylor Construction began the demolition of the existing bridge deck on the east side of the bridge Sept. 13. That not only narrowed the road to one lane in each direction, it blocked boats from going underneath the bridge.
Municipal officials estimated the bridge would reopen to boat traffic Oct. 3, and the contractor hit that target. The movement of the giant beam was one of the final items to be done before the boat traffic could resume use of the bridge. The contractor plans to have the deck of the bridge ready for traffic again when the spring tourist season begins in May.
