After a season of winning, the first loss was particularly hard; but Lambton-Kent Coach Sarah Weed says the team “gave it everything.”
The LK Cardinal Senior Girls’ Basketball team lost for the first time this season in the SWOSSAA final. LaJeunesse won in the Cardinal’s nest 42-29.
Julia Pegg and Sophia Metcalfe were high scorers for LK.
Weed says SWOSSAA was the toughest game of the year. “La Jeunesse challenged our team like no other team has this season.
“It was a tough game, but our gals gave it everything. So it was tough, but they’re walking away proud tonight because they did their best,” Weed said after the loss.
For the coach, the high point of the season has been working with the girls on the team.
“These gals, for the most part, have been playing together since Grade Nine. Not only do they have a close connection on the court, they have close connection off the court, and it just really showed throughout the season. They just really worked together. They had dedication and heart in the game, and that’s, I think, what allowed them to be so successful.”
