Joel Pavey scored his first senior hockey goal late in the third period for the Petrolia Squires in a 2-1 loss to the Erin Outlaws in Ontario Elite Hockey League action at Greenwood Friday.

Pavey was chosen the player of the game.

He joined the Squires this season after a four-year NCAA career with Elmira College in upstate New York.

The Squires outshot the Outlaws, 42-37.

Jakob Knowles took the goaltending loss with 35 saves.

Petrolia is now 4-1 on the season.

The Squires host Delhi Friday at 8:30 before a stop in Milverton for a Sunday afternoon contest.

Petrolia also bolstered its roster last week with the signing of Carson Peer. The Oil City product had an 11-game stint last season with the University of Dubuque in Iowa. Both Pavey and Peer are graduates of the Lambton Jr. Sting and Sarnia Legionnaires.
