Brooke-Alvinston battery storage project cancelled

November 14, 2025

Blake Ellis/The Independent

Venfor isn’t having much luck in Brooke-Alvinston.

The company was to appear before the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston council Thursday to make a presentation about a battery storage proposal. This was conspicuously absent from the agenda. Instead, there was correspondence from Venfor Strathroy Corp. Director Stephen Sanguliano.

“While Venfor has signed option agreements with local landowners to host such facilities, in wake of economic uncertainties in the province, our corporate energy partners have changed their strategic direction and have declined to further pursue this opportunity,” stated Sanguliano. With that, the battery storage proposal was dead.

Sanguliano had previously said that Sun Valley Power was planning a 400-megawatt project along Churchill Line. This project could have stored power for up to 360,000 homes.

This was almost double the size of the Inwood energy storage project on Courtright Line in Enniskillen Township, which is proposed to hold 240 megawatts of power.

Enniskillen Township council is expected to make a decision on whether it supports the Inwood energy storage project at its meeting on Dec. 1.

Venfor was the same company that pitched a wind turbine project to Brooke- Alvinston council earlier this year. Council opposed the project, making it impossible for the company to apply for the provincial contract.
