Preparing for a Christmas tradition in Petrolia

Bluewater Power and Town of Petrolia employees were getting ready for Christmas.

The workers were stringing the lights on the giant pine trees in Victoria Park Friday.

The town holds its annual Christmas in the Park event Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 pm and the Santa Claus Parade Saturday at 2 pm downtown. The theme this year is Christmas on The Farm and local firefighters will collecting non-perishable food for Christmas for Everyone along the parade route.

Forest school plans approved by Lambton Shores

Enniskillen gives green light to fire truck purchase

Blake Ellis/The Independent Enniskillen council gave its approval for the purchase of a $1.3 million pumper truck, but the issue of the cost sharing agreement with the Town of Petrolia is still a sticking point.  “They say we have to have a fire department and everybody has got to pay their fair share,” said Enniskillen Township Councillor Wally Van Dun.

Alvinston and Wyoming firefighters take part in Hayter Memorial Tournament

The action was fierce as firefighters converged on Alvinston for the ninth annual Hayter Memorial Tournament. Ten teams from Lambton County and as far away as Toronto and New Jersey played in the event. Alvinston took on Wyoming during the opening night. It was Watford claiming the tournament title and donating the team’s winnings back to the charity the tournament
