Seven LCCVI swimmers get victories at first LK meet of the season

LCCVI’s Elizabeth Kuykendall, Parker Leckie, Marnie Sawyer, Leah Stephens, Molly Thomas, Whitney Wilson, Hayden Young, and three relay teams came away with wins at the Wallaceburg District Secondary School Invitational on Monday.

The Lancers had success in the individual freestyle races. Thomas came out on top in the junior girls 100 yard race, Kuykendall got a dominant win in the senior girls 100 yard event, and Parker Leckie touched the wall first in the Open Boys 100 yard race, beating the second place finisher by 0.46 seconds.

A pair of girls swimmers got wins in the breaststroke with Sawyer winning the Senior Girls 50 yard breaststroke event and Stephens finishing nearly 12 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor in the open girls 100 yard breaststroke race.

Young and Wilson were the other two LCCVI swimmers to come away with victories. Young won the Senior Boys 50 yard butterfly event with a time of 30.39 seconds and Wilson got a convincing victory in the Open Girls 100 yard individual medley race, beating the second place finisher by nearly ten seconds.

The Lancers had three girls relay teams that started off their season on a high note.

Sawyer, Kuykendall, Madailynne Henderson, and Danielle McKay combined for a pair of wins in the Senior Girls 200 yard freestyle relay and the Senior Girls 200 yard medley relay.

The Open Girls 200 yard medley team also came away with a relay victory. The team consisted of Stephens, Jane St. Pierre, Wilson, and Leah McKay.
