The host East Lambton Eagles won five straight games to capture the under-11 Tier 2 championship at the Alvinston regional Silver Stick hockey tournament on the weekend.
After winning both of its preliminary round games, the Eagles defeated Niagara on the Lake, 9-1 and Parry Sound, 5-3 to reach Sunday’s final.
Wallaceburg jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead in the championship before the Eagles scored three unanswered goals – two in the second and the game winner early in the third – to capture the championship banner.
Elsewhere, the Sarnia Sting won the tier one championship with a 3-1 win over Dresden. The Sting advanced with a 4-3 win over Lambton Shores in the semi-finals. Petrolia tied for second in its division but missed the playoffs on goal differential.
Woodstock prevailed in the A division final.
The Eagles and Sting now advance to the North American Silver Stick finals in Forest next month.
