St. Clair to consider two IT positions at budget

December 16, 2025

St. Clair Township may have a full-time Information Technology department.

Dec. 1, township council met in camera with a consultant which suggested for a community of its size, St. Clair should have up to five employees covering various components of IT, according to Clerk Jeff Baranek after the meeting.

“We had a consultant audit our current set-up and make recommendations on number of personnel, and their roles. The reason it was in-camera is they referenced the performance of our “department” referencing individuals by name,” he said.

Right now, one person deals with the IT needs of the municipality, but the position doesn’t have consistent hours.

“After careful consideration, council opted to have staff prepare job descriptions and salary ranges for two IT employees,” he tells The Independent.

Council’s intention is to consider creating a  director and a support staff position during the budget deliberations in January.
