Flood watch in effect in Lambton after weekend freezing rain and downpours
December 29, 2025
The Independent
The combination of freezing rain Saturday and up to 30 mm of rain Sunday will likely lead to flooded roads in Central Lambton.
That from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority which issued a flood warning Monday evening.
Officials say many areas of the Sydenham River have flooded into natural floodplain and low-lying areas already. The water levels on Bear Creek near Brigden and Black Creek near Bickford Line are cresting but both the north and east branches of the Sydenham River continue to rise. SCRCA say that could “lead to flooding of roads, particularly in the areas of Strathroy, Petrolia, and St. Clair and Enniskillen townships.”
Below-freezing overnight and daytime temperatures forecast for this week will keep the snow and ice currently stored on land from entering the system. But officials say more snow is expected which could keep the waters high.
You’re reminded to stay clear of flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, unsafe ice conditions and swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
The flood watch remains in effect until Dec. 31 at noon.
