East Lambton wins Silver Stick title in dramatic fashion

The East Lambton Eagles are the North American U16 A hockey champions for the 2025-26 season.
The Eagles won the championship banner in Newmarket beating the Woodstock Navy Vets, 6-5 in double overtime in the title game Sunday.
The Eagles sent the game to extra time with the equalizing goal with just over two minutes left in
regulation time.
After going 3-1 in preliminary round play, the Eagles doubled the Georgian Bay Islanders, 4-2 in the semi-final to reach the championship contest.

Over 1,800 traffic charges laid on long weekend in southwestern Ontario

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving. Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.
