Petrolia Squires post a dozen wins, seven at home

The Petrolia Squires hit the dozen win mark in the Ontario Elite Hockey League season with a 5-2 win over
Milverton at Greenwood Friday.

Petrolia has now won three straight games and is 12-5 overall. They are 7-2 on home ice.

Isaac McLean scored twice for the home team, which had period leads of 2-1 and 4-1 on its way to victory.

Cam Hackett had his first career senior hockey goal. Josh Barraclough and Carson Perry also scored for the Squires.

Joey Ferrera and Ryan Barwitzki had three and two assists respectively.

Nolan Dekoning kicked out 36 shots in the Petrolia crease as the Squires outshot Milverton, 45-38.

The Squires will close out its regular season home schedule hosting Tavistock Friday night at 8:30.

After that, the Squires will end the regular season with road games in Dunnville and Seaforth.

Over 1,800 traffic charges laid on long weekend in southwestern Ontario

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.  Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.
