The Sarnia Sting came so close to a North American Silver Stick championship on home ice Sunday.

Delhi scored three unanswered goals in the final period, including two in the final two minutes to beat the Sting, 4-2 in the Under-11 A final.

Sarnia had won four straight preliminary round contests and blanked Woodstock, 1-0 in the semi-finals.

The Sting roster includes Hendrix McDonald and Mason Charron of Wyoming.

The U-11 and U-13 Tier One and Tier Two North American Silver Stick championship banners will be awarded this weekend in Lambton Shores.

Action begins at 8 am Friday and continues through the four finals set to begin at the Shores Recreation Complex in Forest on Sunday at 11:30.

Preliminary round games will also be played at the Legacy Recreation Complex in Thedford and the Warwick Township Arena in Watford.

Local teams competing are the host Lambton Shores Predators, East Lambton Eagles, Sarnia Sting and the Dresden Junior Kings.

The Sarnia Sting and Lambton Attack both won finalist banners at the B.A.D (Belmont, Aylmer, Dorchester) Blazers girls’ hockey tournament on the weekend.

The Sting beat Southpoint in the semifinals to reach the under-11 C final before bowing to Wingham in the final.

The Attack downed St. Thomas before coming up short to Lambeth in the under-9 C final.

The East Lambton Eagles rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Drayton Defenders, 4-3 in the final of the under-9 B Tier Two regional Silver Stick final in Parkhill on the weekend.

Both teams went into the championship contest with perfect 4-0 records.

Bradyn Santavy has qualified for the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Panama City in April.

The 22-year-old from Sarnia qualified by winning the 94-kilo category at the Ontario Open in Scarborough on the weekend.

The youngest of Santavy clan had a personal best of 163 kilos in the snatch and a 190-kilo lift in the clean and jerk.

His total of 353 kilos was also a personal best. The Pan Am and the Canadian Championships are both qualifiers for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland this summer.
