After losing its first three games at the national U22 baseball championship in Tecumseh, near Windsor, the Sarnia Junior Brigade rebounded and played for the bronze medal.

Following wins over Nova Scotia and the host Thunder to end the preliminary round, Sarnia had a bronze medal in its sights with a 5-4 lead on the Halifax Mets but the club from the Maritimes scored once in the fifth inning and the decisive run in the sixth inning for a 6-5 victory.

It was the second straight year the Brigade had won the provincial qualifier to lose in the bronze medal game at nationals.

Petrolia’s Jack Helps and Zach Wilson were both on the Brigade roster as was Jack Wilson from Strathroy.

Meantime, for the fourth time in the past six seasons, the Sarnia Brigade has won a medal at the Baseball Ontario senior AAA national qualifier.

The host Windsor Stars pushed across seven runs in the third inning to erase an early 3-0 lead on its way to 10-6
win over Sarnia earlier this month.

Windsor will represent Ontario at the national tournament in New Brunswick next week. Sarnia finishes with a tournament record of 5-2.
