There could be more residential development in Oil Springs.

Roger Buurma of Lasalle Line in Brooke-Alvinston owns Lekker Homes, which wants to build 11 single-floor townhouses of Roady Park Rd. in the north east part of the village.

The plan calls for two blocks of buildings – the first includes four one-storey townhouses located towards the rear of the property. The second block will have seven more townhouses that will face north. A central private road access will extend from Roady Park Rd. at Aniline St. connecting with the individual townhouse units.

The proposed development, similar retirement rental units already built in Petrolia and another under construction outside of Wyoming, will be built on 0.69 hectares of land – about 1.7 acres – which is currently green space.

The development is expected to be serviced with municipal sewers and water.

Oil Springs Council was provided with the project’s site plan, landscaping plan, lighting plan and geotechnical report at its Aug. 4 meeting.

Buurma owns 2614 Frederick St. which backs onto Roady Park. He’s taken the 0.35 hectares and merged it with a former municipal road allowance that fronts onto Roady Park to create the lot.

Council had held a public meeting on July 14 to change the zoning of the property to permit townhouses, as well as reduced rear yard set backs and interior yard set backs. All of these changes were approved. Lambton County planning staff will work with Buurma to finalize the site plan.
