Flyers stay atop Yeck Division with a pair of weekend wins

The Yeck Division-leading Petrolia Flyers scored four unanswered goals in the third period in beating Aylmer, 6-1 in PJHL action at Greenwood Thursday night.

Phoenix Timmington, Ryan Nichols, Joey Shaw and Jace McGrail had a goal and an assist each for the winners.

McGrail is now the leading scorer among defencemen in the history of the Petrolia/Alvinston Flyers with 44 points in 36 games. The previous mark of 38 was held by current Petrolia Squire Eric Marsh.

Andrew Jaques also scored for the Flyers last night.

Miller Mailloux and Tobias Iantorno each had two assists.

Ben Kraft stopped 18 of 19 shots directed his way for the goaltending victory.

Ex-Lambton Jr. Sting goalie Callum Besley took the loss with 48 stops as the Flyers out the Spitfires, 54-19.

Two goals in less than a minute late in the second broke a tie and lifted Petrolia to a 5-2 win over North Middlesex in Parkhill Saturday.

Jaques led the winners with a pair of goals with Ty Moffatt and Iantorno each adding a goal and an assist.

Joey Shaw had the other Flyers goal and McGrail contributed two assists to increase his point streak to 14 games.

Kraft stopped 32 shots for the goaltending win.

Watford’s Sean Shanahan took the loss with 40 stops.

The Flyers have now won three straight games outscoring its opposition, 17-4.

Petrolia remains the leader atop the Yeck Division with a record of 23-9-4.

The Flyers take on the Sailors in Port Stanley on Tuesday and entertain Exeter Thursday night at 7:30. Petrolia closes out a busy week with game at Mt. Brydges Friday night.
