A 30-year-old Sarnia man is facing charges of drug trafficking and manslaughter after the death of a woman.
May 2, 2024, police were called to Somerset Cres. for a woman who was unconscious and without vital signs in the driveway of her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Sarnia Police say evidence pointed to opioid use. Some fentanyl was seized at the scene.
A post mortem found the woman died of intoxication with fluorofentanyl.
Sarnia Police then obtained a warrant to search the woman’s phone. They found communiciations indicating she had purchased the fentanyl in the hours before her death and after months of investigation, officers identified a person they believed was the supplier.
Police say a person can be charged with manslaughter where they commit an unlawful, dangerous act which leads to another person’s death.
Police charged Mackenzie Kozlof, 30, of Sarnia with manslaughter and trafficking fentanyl. Kozlof was arrested Feb. 16 after getting out of a cab around Davis and Victoria St.
Police say Kozlof fled on foot but was found by the K9 team within minutes behind a nearby building.
