St. Clair Township councillors are calling for an immediate fix to curb accidents at the corner of Petrolia and Kimball Lines. This after another accident at the corner.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing a crash at the corner of Petrolia Line and Kimball Road which sent three people, including an OPP officer and a mobile crisis response worker to hospital.
Lambton OPP said shortly before 4:30 pm Feb. 13, two vehicles collided at the corner. The officer and the mobile crisis response worker were taken to hospital with what police describe as minor injures.
The driver of other vehicle was taken to hospital; police are not sure the extent of their injures.
Police are asking anyone who may have dash-cam video or may have seen the crash to call police with any information.
No further information about the cause of the crash is being released since the Special Investigations Unit of Ontario is investigating. It looks to any police interaction where someone is injured.
While it’s not clear exactly what happened, there is a long history of accidents at the intersection. Lambton County has planned a roundabout for the intersection.
Tuesday, during a St Clair Township council meeting, Mayor Jeff Agar told councillors he’s been going “through hell” to get more safety protections at the intersection. “What are they waiting for?” he asked.
During budget deliberations Feb. 4, Jeff Agar asked whether the roundabout would move forward in 2026.
Jason Cole, general manager of infrastructure and development, said the county would like to move ahead this year however staff is still negotiating to buy land in the area for the construction.
Agar asked the county to put large stop signs with lights around it however Cole says those type of stop signs are not permitted by the province. Instead, the county is looking at alternatives to increase visibility at the intersection.
St. Clair Councillor Cathy Langis says the township “needs to emphasize this council is very concerned and we need to do something immediately…I understand it is the people driving the vehicles, but we need to emphasize this is a bad corner.”
