Community to raise $5M for Grand Bend centre

Lambton Shores council has given the okay to draw up building plans for the proposed Grand Bend Community Centre project.
The $15 million centre project was given the green light by council in May with a request for staff to come up with a way to fundraise for some of the cost.
Staff suggested, and council agreed, to form a community-led committee to raise $5 million. In the past, community members raised 23 per cent of the cost of The Shores Recreation Centre and 38 per cent of the Grand Bend Beach enhancement cost.
The municipality is looking for a $2.5 million grant and financing $5.7 million of the cost.
CAO Steve McAuley says this gives the community a clear indication council is moving forward on the project.
