Mayor, Hydro One meet on power lines

Dawn-Euphemia’s mayor has had his first meeting with Hydro One about power lines which will dissect some homes in the township.
Al Broad told council Monday he met with officials last week, and more meetings are in the offing.
Hydro One is waiting for the OK to build the Longwood to Lakeshore Line.
Broad has been a vocal opponent of the route which is placed over three homes and barns and is close to four more and miles of farmland.
It’s expected some of those homes will be sold to Hydro One and demolished. Broad worries that will reduce the township’s tax base.
Broad expects work with Hydro One on some compensation in September. Staff will also work with the utility to make sure construction goes smoothly once it does begin.

Over 1,800 traffic charges laid on long weekend in southwestern Ontario

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving. Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.
