James McEwan is returning for a fourth season with the Alvinston Killer Bees.

He has scored 89 goals and registered 239 points in 103 regular season and playoff games over the past three campaigns with the Bees.

The Metro Division all-star had 76 points in 31 games last season leading the Bees to a divisional championship and a final game appearance in the Apex Cup tournament.

LCCVI alum Melinda “Lindy” Evans, who now lives in Australia, was second in the women’s division at the annual Bluewater Triathlon last weekend.

Dave Groendyk of Plympton-Wyoming and Glen Anderson both cracked the top five in the Olympic Duathlon event.

Groendyk was third. Anderson placed fifth.

Jon Lavers has been named the new president of the Mooretown Flags.

A post from the board of directors says Lavers is “a life-long Corunna resident whose commitment to local sports and community organizations has made a lasting impact. For more than 25 years, Jon has been a dedicated volunteer with the Mooretown Flags, helping support and strengthen the organization both on and off the ice. Over the past three seasons, he has also served as a valued member of the Flags’ Board of Directors.”

Lavers replaces Bob Barnes, who along with his wife Maureen, was thanked by the Flags for their countless hours of time, energy and passion for the PJHL team.

Petrolia’s Rollie Middleton will be inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in September as a member of the 1972-73 Chatham Jr. Maroons hockey team. The Maroons won the Southern Ontario Junior A championship that season.

Middleton, a goalie, played a season each with the Petrolia Jets and Squires before and after his time with the Maroons.

Lakynn Park of Petrolia was named to the all tournament team as a member of Team Ontario at the Rose Series girls’ hockey showdown in Utah earlier this month.

Ontario finished the tournament in second place with a 5-1 record. They lost to Boston’s Junior Bruins, 2-1 in the championship game.

Several area sports organizations are recipients of donations from Sting Assists from 50/50 ticket sales at Sting games during the 2025-26 campaign.

Those receiving grants include East Lambton, Mooretown and Lambton Shores minor hockey, Mooretown Lady Flags, Lambton Attack, Forest Ringette, Wyoming minor ball and the Petrolia and District Skating Club.

Shona Branton has added a pair of bronze medals to her swimming achievement collection.

The Port Lambton swimmer was third in the 50-metre breast stroke in 31.17 seconds and third in the 100-metre breast stroke in 1:07.63 at the Canadian swimming trials in Montreal recently.
