Local Track and Field Athletes win medals at event In St. Catharines

Liam Hackett and Rhys Marriott finished one and two in the boys’ U16 200-metre hurdles finals at the Ontario U14, U16, U18 track and field championships and combined events in St. Catharines last weekend.

Hackett crossed the line in 26.55 followed by Marriott at 27.05. Both are LCCVI students.

Meantime, Kole Chapman came in second the U18 110-metre hurdles final by a hair. He finished in 14.43 seconds, 3/100th of a second behind the winner from Hamilton.

Chapman was fifth in the 400-metre hurdles in 56.73 seconds.

Mooretown’s Camryn Leitch was third in the U18 javelin with a heave of 38.38 metres while LCCVI’s Kallee Elliott and Khloe
Baron placed fourth and sixth respectively in the U16 pentathlon.

Elliott won the high jump portion of event at 1.58 metres while Baron was third in he 800-metre run.

All the athletes with the exception of Chapman are training with the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Club this summer.

Chapman is affiliated with the London Legion Alliance Club.
