Watford library to close during major renovation project

July 30, 2026

The Independent

Watford’s library is getting major improvements.

The facility will be closing from Aug. 21 to Oct. 18 as Lambton County and Warwick Township complete a number of upgrades for accessibility and to improve service and the technology at the branch.

In a news release officials say a new accessible service desk will be added as well as new shelving, furniture and equipment.

The construction includes new flooring, painting, lighting, and the replacement of existing wall panels and ceiling tiles on the second floor, more electrical and data connections downstairs, a public washroom change table, and new interior and exterior video surveillance.

The county will also work with the Warwick Heritage & Historical Society and the Lambton County Archives to create heritage features to be incorporated into the library.

The county and township will also improve the technology infrastructure in the lower-level, which has already been refurbished with fresh paint and flooring.

Officials have scheduled a reopening celebration for Oct. 22 during Ontario Public Library Week.

While the library is closed, patrons can visit other Lambton County Library locations, including nearby locations in Alvinston, Arkona, Forest, and Wyoming, borrow eBooks, eAudiobooks, and other digital resources through the library’s online collection, or use Library by Mail if travelling to another location is not possible.

The book return bin will remain open at Watford library during the closure for the return of most library materials
