It was all about the corn in Watford for Cornfest over the weekend.

The Kids’ Parade kicked off the events Friday as youngsters decorated their bikes and wagons, assembling at the elementary school to the East Lambton Community Centre grounds.

Sunday, the car show was one of the events on the grounds keeping people entertained.

The annual Watford Cornfest Car show Aug. 9.

But above all was the corn, as it was prepared and served by the Alvinston Killer Bees on Sunday afternoon. Killer Bee Cameron Rombouts pulls out freshly cooked corn ready to be devoured.

Full steam ahead at the Western Ontario Steam Threshers’ show

Blake Ellis/The Independent Rain threatened the fun Saturday, but it was full steam head at the Western Ontario Steam Threshers 69th annual show over the weekend. Over 1,800 traffic charges laid on long weekend in southwestern Ontario

The Independent West Region OPP officers laid 1,815 charges following 2,107 traffic stops across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving.  Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over Law which gives emergency responders the space they need conduct other work on the roadside.

Construction on Camlachie golf course condos may begin in 2027
