Pedestrians, OPP officers nearly hit by vehicle fleeing seatbelt and RIDE checks in Grand Bend

A Grand Bend man is facing nine charges after a wild incident in the beach town.

Lambton OPP say around 5 pm Friday, officers were conducting a seatbelt check near Main Street and Kitchener Ave in Grand Bend when a motorist fled the stop, nearly striking several pedestrians.

The vehicle headed to Oak St. where five OPP officers were conducting a RIDE check. Police say the same vehicle drove through the spot check, nearly striking three uniformed officers. There were no injuries.

Police later arrested a man and took him into custody.

Stuart Morden, 36, of Grand Bend faces nine charges in all including three counts of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, failing to wear a seat belt properly, stunt driving and driving without a license.

The OPP asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam or surveillance footage from the area to call them or reach out through Crime Stoppers.
