Basement leak latest problem during Moore Sportsplex reno

September 16, 2026

The Independent

Groundwater is seeping into the basement of the Mooretown Sports Complex

It’s another problem uncovered during the renovation of the pool. Before the pool work began in April, council agreed to rebuild the change room. Contractors had found iron pipes in the walls were corroding.

After finding some cash in the budget, council okayed that work.

Then, in late August, contractors found the floor joists under the change rooms weren’t able to bear the weight being put on it, according the CAO John Rodey.

That problem was enough to delay the work into 2027 and close the library above the change room and part of the main floor foyer.

Rodey tells The Independent they have now found groundwater “seeping in from where the original building meets the addition area.”

Rodey says since the floor is already being removed in the area, contractors will be able to fix the problem.

It’s not clear if the work will cause even more delays.
