Watford’s Van Gorp tied for OHL scoring lead after big opening weekend with Knights

Watford’s Evan Van Gorp was among the players considered for the COGECO Player of the Week award in the OHL following the opening weekend.
He had two goals and three assists in a pair of wins against Windsor on Friday and Saturday.
Van Gorp is tied for the league scoring lead with Dimian Zhilkin of the Saginaw Spirit, who was chosen as player of the week on Monday, and Cooper Dennis of the Peterborough Petes.
Van Gorp registered a pair of assists, including a helper on the overtime winner, in London’s 3-2 home ice victory on Friday and the veteran winger had two goals and an assist and was chosen the first star on Saturday as London bounced the Spitfires, 6-2 in Windsor.
Rookie Kane Barch of Grand Bend had an assist in each contests for the Knights to begin his OHL career.
London only has one game this weekend and it’s against the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night.
The Knights are ranked second behind the Victoria Royals of the WHL in the first CHL top ten rankings of the season. The 2027 Memorial Cup host Guelph Storm are ranked fourth and Saginaw is rated sixth.
Meantime, newcomer Jonathan Kapageridis made an immediate impact with the Knights registering four points last weekend.
The former second overall pick in the 2024 OHL under-18 draft by the Sting was traded by North Bay Battalion to London last week.
He was dealt to the Battalion from the Sting from three draft choices in January 2025.
