Dennis slams diversity hiring, climate action group and Aamjiwnaang First Nation at debate

Sarnia mayoral candidate Bill Dennis let his true colours fly at an all-candidates meeting today to help Sarnians decide on their next mayor.

It was hosted by Sarnia Rotary at the Dante Club and featured four of the five the mayoral candidates; Mike Bradley, Dennis, Carrie McEachran and Scott Molson . George Stanko had to cancel at the last minute for a family emergency organizers said.

Dennis called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) hiring “outrageous” and the city’s volunteer Climate Action group “despicable.”

Dennis also said he “couldn’t care less” about what the Aamjiwnaang First Nation thinks about a new pipeline.

Emergency responders on scene of accident on Petrolia Line in the fog

The Independent Emergency responders are on the scene of an accident at the corner of Petrolia Line and Plank Road. St. Clair Fire, the OPP and paramedics were called to the corner just before 8 am Tuesday morning in the fog. There are no details about the accident but fire officials are asking people to avoid the area.

Restoring, uncovering the history of The Queen of North Christina

Heather Wright/The Independent St. Joseph’s Hospice is hoping to renew its historic building and preserve its history. The Sarnia organization operates out a home once known as “The Queen of North Christina” which includes an addition for 10 hospice beds. The historic home is in need of repairs to the roof and the cedar shakes which adorn its second-storey exterior.
