Sports Briefs: Tecumseh tops Wyoming in OBA championship game

The Wyoming Cattlebarons will go down as the second-best Senior AA baseball in Ontario for 2026.

After a month-long delay due to inclement weather, the Tecumseh Thunder beat the Barons, 10-1 in the OBA
championship game on Sunday in Kincardine.

The Thunder had reached the final with a 2-0 win over New Lowell (Barrie area) in the semifinal earlier in the day.

Noah Harse led Wyoming with two hits and he drove in the Cattlebarons lone run.

Petrolia’s Gage Brandon reached a milestone over the weekend.

He scored his first goal in the Ontario Junior Hockey League to help the Pickering Panthers beat the Niagara
Falls Canucks, 3-1.

Brandon’s goal at 13:15 of the third period was the game-winning tally. He also added an assist.

Brandon was dealt to the Panthers by Cobourg late last month.

Mateo Craievich scored his first career GOHL goal on Sunday for the Stratford Warriors in a 5-4 win against the Maroons in Chatham.

He notched six goals with the Petrolia Flyers in PJHL action in 2023-24. Stratford is 2-3 on the young season.

Chatham, coached by Alvinston Killer Bees fan favourite Brennan Feasey, is 5-1.

The Sarnia Legionnaires fell to 0-4 after a trio of losses last week.

Sarnia hosts London on Thursday at 7 p.m.

LCCVI alumni Charlie Shaw finished in the top half of the field and his University of Guelph Gryphons men’s team took third place in the Vigars and Salter Western invitational in London on the weekend.

Northern grad Ryan Davies of McMaster was the top local runner. He finished 11th out of 124 competitors at the
opening collegiate cross country event of the season.

LCCVI suffered its first loss of the LKSSAA baseball season on Monday, bowing to the Northern Vikings, 11-10.

The Lancers had opened the campaign with wins over Great Lakes and St. Patrick’s last week.

North Lambton is 2-0 after a win over the Wolfpack last week.

The Eagles host St. Patrick’s on Thursday (Oct. 1) in Forest and LCCVI travels to Dresden for a game against the LKCS Cardinals.

First pitch for both games is set for 3 p.m.

LCCVI and North Lambton go head-to-head in a girls’ basketball doubleheader in Forest Thursday (Oct. 1).

The juniors tip off at 5:30, followed by the senior contest at 7 p.m.

The Lancers opened the senior season with a win over John McGregor last week and North Lambton downed Wallaceburg. LCCVI and the Eagles both lost their junior openers.

Meantime, the LCCVI boys began the volleyball season on Monday by splitting a pair of matches. They lost a three-set decision to John McGregor but rebounded to defeat Wallaceburg in straight sets.

And the junior girls and boys soccer sides both lost twice last week but three of the four matches were decided by one goal.
