Marine rescue unit brings Port Lambton boater to safety

The 29-foot boat was stranded in the dark near Blue Point
There were a few tense moments but a happy ending after a distress call from a Port Lambton boater.
The PointSAR Marine Rescue Search and Rescue got a distress call at 3:13 am Saturday. A 29-foot vessel was aground with two people on board.
The unit wasn’t able to reach the boaters because their cell phone had died.
The boat was headed for Grand Bend and officials estimated the boat was in the shallow waters near Kettle Point.
The coast guard ship Goderich 753 jointed the auxiliary rescue unit heading to the area. The boat was found near Blue Point.
It was no longer grounded but had significant problems including one of the engines and the navigation equipment wasn’t working. Everyone onboard was okay but the boat had limited fuel and the owner wasn’t sure what would be the safest route to Grand Bend.
Because of the weather off Kettle Point and what PointSAR said in a social media post was the lack of a suitable safe harbour, the Goderich 753 escorted the boat to the Sarnia Yacht Club for repairs.
PointSAR reminds boaters to have a reliable marine communication equipment, operating navigation equipment, and always have enough fuel and emergency equipment before heading out.
