Lambton-Kent public school board to hold fewer public meetings

October 2, 2026

The Lambton Kent District School Board will have 15 meetings annually beginning in November.

A revised plan was presented to trustees at its Sept 22 meeting after trustees voted down a plan in a 4-4 vote at its Sept. 8 meeting to reduce its schedule from 18 meetings to nine meetings.

Trustee David Shortt said the new schedule was a good compromise and addresses some of the trustees concerns about being able to meet the school board’s workload given the shortened schedule.

“I support it 100 per cent,” said Trustee Jane Bryce. At the Sept. 8 meeting, Lambton Kent District School Board CEO Gary Girardi had estimated reducing the meetings from 18 to 9 would save the school board between $11,000 and $13,000 annually.

Using the board’s figure, the board will now save less than $4,500 by reducing the number of meetings from 18 to 15.

The new schedule will begin after the school board elections in October, with an organizational meeting on Nov. 17.

There will be one meeting in each month of January, February, March and April, two meetings in May, June, September and October followed by one meeting in November 2027.

The school board traditionally does not have regular meetings in July and August. The new schedule eliminates the December meeting.
