The Black Creek Bridge construction on Marthaville Road is on target to be complete by Nov. 30.
“It looks like a bridge right now,” said Enniskillen Township’s Public Works Superintendent Darcy Mitchell, saying the
girders and the riprap are in. The contractor is getting ready to pour the deck and put the sidewalls up. Mitchell gave the report to Enniskillen Township council at its meeting on Monday.
“Has there anything been put in the donation can yet,” quipped Enniskillen Mayor Kevin Marriott, making reference to the high cost of the project.
The township accepted a $2.6 million tender from Cope Construction in April. The township is using funding received from the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund, gas tax revenue and almost $400,000 from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund for the project.
The municipality also authorized a $2.5 million line of credit, to take care of the rest of the cost, an amount just under
$750,000.
This is the first time Enniskillen has taken on debt in recent memory.
