The polls have closed in Brooke-Alvinston and residents will soon know who will be heading up a new-look council in November.

There is a three-way race for mayor after David Ferguson chose not to seek a third-term as mayor. Jamie Armstrong, a former councillor and active volunteer in the community, Don McCabe, a current councillor who has served in farm politics for decades, and Marcus Deloughery, a political newcomer who moved to Alvinston 16 years ago, are all vying for the top job.

Three incumbents are seeking council positions again, Frank Nemcek, Jenny Redick and Craig Sanders. Three others on the ballot are; Greg Hillyard, who is making his second attempt at a council seat, Diane Mac Dougall, a former banker and farmer, and Ian Lehrbass, a former Brooke Township councillor and long-time farmer.

Administrators expect the results to be known by 9 pm since the electronic votes are automatically tabulated after the polls closed.
