The polls have closed in Point Edward where two current councillors are battling it out for the mayor’s chair as incumbent, Bev Hand, runs for a councillor position this term.

Hand was first elected in 2014 and was serving as the deputy mayor when she was appointed to replace the retiring mayor, Larry MacKenzie. She decided to run for council so she would have more time to help her husband who has not been well.

Paul Burgess, who has been on council since 2014, and Greg Grimes, who has served on council since 2018 and is the current deputy mayor, are both seeking the top job.

Eight others are joining Hand in the bid to fill one of four of the councillor positions, Louis Mele, Paul Churchill, Gary Capp, Doug Booth, Kevin Devine, Patty Yazbeck, Mike Brocklehurst, Kristen Simpson and Arianna Noctor.
