The polls have now closed in Plympton-Wyoming and the results of the 2026 Municipal Election are expected to be known before 9 pm. The town is using electronic voting which leads to faster results than the hand-counting method.

Gary Atkinson is seeking a third term as mayor of Plympton-Wyoming. He faces the same challenger as he faced in the 2018 and 2022 election, Tim Wilkins. Wilkins has served one term as councillor.

The race for deputy mayor pits former municipal zoning administrator and deputy clerk, incumbent Netty McEwen against developer Brad Zantingh who has not been elected to public office before. He has lots of municipal experience, working with Plympton-Wyoming on housing development and bringing disputes before the Ontario Land Tribunal and it’s predecessor, the Ontario Municipal Board, 11 times, according to the OLT website, to challenge town’s planning decisions. He currently has another case before the OTL. McEwen, the current deputy mayor, is seeking a fifth term.

All of the incumbent councillors, Alex Boughen, Mike Vasey, Kirstin Rodrigues, John Van Klaveren and Bob Woolvett are seeking re-election. Newcomers John Collings, Jess Jessome and Ruth Vanderburght are seeking their first term.
