The long wait is finally over.
For the first time since February 2025, the Sarnia Legionnaires hit the GOHL win column with a 4-1 win over the St. Thomas Stars at Pat Stapleton Arena Thursday night.
The victory snapped a 67-game losing streak.
Evan Bannister’s second goal of the game, a power play tally at 7:38 of the third period, broke a 1-1 tie and was the eventual game-winning goal.
Bannister, a second-round pick by the Sarnia Sting in June, completed the hat trick with an empty net goal to go along with another empty net goal by Dante Caruso both in the final 70 seconds.
Martin Brassard had three assists for Sarnia.
Another Sting draft choice, David Healy made 54 stops in the Legionnaire crease as the Stars outshot Sarnia, 55-26.
Lambton Jr. Sting grad Carter L’Heureux scored for the Stars.
