Former Dawn-Euphemia councillor Emery Huszka has a new political job. He’ll represent Bothwell and Thamesville on Chatham-Kent council.
Huszka, who championed the concerns of rural residents who often felt overshadowed by urban needs in the regional municipality, easily won his seat with 46 per cent of the vote in a field of seven.
Huszka’s election came amid a huge change in the municipality.
Two-term mayor Darrin Canniff was swept out of office. Michael Bondy, who vows to maintain rural services such as dust control, won 43.4 per cent of the vote. Canniff won 31.6 per cent of the vote.
There will be eight new faces around the council table, including Jim Blake who will represent the rural area around Dresden and Wallaceburg.
Dresden residents will continue to be represented by Rhonda Jubenville who reclaimed her seat by just 149 votes over John Cumming.
