Petrolia and area families will have lots to do on the Family Day weekend.

A number of family friendly activities are planned including a snow sculpture contest according to Petrolia’s marketing manager, Laurissa Ellsworth.

Starting Saturday until February 17 the town is encouraging residents to get outside and enter their snow sculpture contest.  This year’s theme is “Under the Sea” and participants are invited to use props, paint, and anything they can think of for the contest, but the main ingredient must be snow. Register your address by sending an email to Laurissa at lellsworth@town.petrolia.on.ca.  Submissions will be accepted via Facebook, email, or in person at Town Hall and The O.H.D.C.C. until 3pm on February 17, which is Family Day. The entries will be judged that day with the winners announced at the council meeting the next day.

There will be some friendly competition at The O.H.D.C.C.  Saturday at 1:00pm with a Parents vs. Kids Indoor Soccer game,  then at  2:00pm Parents vs. Kids Floor Hockey, and at 3:00pm Parents vs. Kids Indoor Baseball.

Saturday night at Victoria Hall the Petrolia Lion’s Club presents “The Caverners” at 8:00pm.  Tickets for this event are available by calling (519)882-1221 or by visiting www.thevpp.ca.

Sunday, February 16 is a day that is packed with activities starting with Public Skating at The Greenwood Recreation Centre from 12:50pm-1:40pm.  “Monsters University”, will be shown on the big screen at Victoria Hall at 2:00pm.  This is a free event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Petrolia.  One adult for every 4 children please.  Tickets available at 1:30pm on the day of the film. The Petrolia Lions Club presents an Effective Speaking Contest on Sunday, February 16 at 1:00pm at the Lions Hall on Huggard Street.

On Sunday there will be free Public Skating at The Greenwood Recreation Centre compliments of Richard and Kelly Poore from 11:00am.. The O.H.D.C.C. hosts all kinds of free family fun with bouncy houses, and free carnival games.  The Lambton Central Optimist Club will have their barbeque fired up for lunch where you can get a hotdog and juice box for $2.00 and free public swimming will be offered from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

Burn ban in affect in Plympton-Wyoming
