Petrolia is gearing up for Family Day.

Laurissa Ellsworth, director of marketing for the town, says the fun begins this weekend as Second Annual Snow Sculpting Contest gets underway Feb. 1. “This year’s them is cartoon characters,” says Ellsworth in a news release. Families can use props, paint and their imaginations to come up with a winning entry “but the main ingredient must be snow.”

Ellsworth says you can register your sculpture through Facebook, email (at [email protected]) or at Town Hall or The Centre.

Judging takes place Feb. 17 with the winners announced in March.

Ellsworth says officials are also getting ready for Family Day weekend. Friday, Feb. 13, the film at Victoria Hall will be ‘Her’ starting at 7pm. The Petrolia Lions present Rock Around the Clock Saturday night at 8.

And Sunday is packed with events including free public skating from 12:50 until 1:40 pm and a showing of Dispicable Me 2 at Victoria Hall at 2 pm.

Monday there is more free public skating and there will be lots of events at The Centre as well.
