The Petrolia Squires and Tavistock Royals will go head-to-head in the first round of the Western Ontario Senior Hockey League playoffs.

The Squires leapfrogged Clinton for third place in the league’s South Division with a 4-3 win over the Radars last Friday at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.

Dan Veenema had two goals and an assist for Petrolia, while Breydan Belan scored once and added two helpers.  Chris Wilson had the other marker for the Squires, breaking a 3-3 tie with just over five minutes remaining in the second period.

The visitors did everything they could in the final frame to get the equalizer, outshooting Petrolia 21-2, but they couldn’t solve goaltender Chris Houle.

Houle made a total of 47 saves on the night as Clinton outshot the Squires, 50-25.
