Lambton OPP are looking for $1 million worth of copper wire stolen from Hydro One.
Police were called to Oil Springs Line between St. Clair Parkway and Greenfield Road in St. Clair Township early Monday morning. Ontario Power Generation and Hydro One are the two companies with property along that stretch of Oil Springs Line. OPG officials confirm the theft was at the Hydro One yards.
Officials with Hydro One told police spools of cooper wire were missing. The theft occurred between 2 pm Saturday and 7 am Monday.
Police say the thieves got into the property by cutting a locked gate on the perimeter before going into the property and stealing the copper wire spools.
Police estimate the value of the theft is $1 million.
The OPP is looking for a 2007, white, International model 40S heavy truck which may have been involved in the heist. Police say it had been stolen in Sarnia Aug. 2.
Police are also urging scrap metal dealers and recycling facilities to contact the OPP if they receive a large quantity of copper wire. The information could help police ultimately find the people responsible for the theft.
OPP are asking anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the area over the weekend, or has dash or security cameras to contact the OPP. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers.
