Special to The Independent

The Wyoming Junior Cowboys have brought home the gold.

The club participated in the London Southwest Junior baseball tournament this past weekend and came away with the gold medal.  Wyoming finished with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

Wyoming opened the tournament with a solid 5-0 victory over the Woodslee Orioles. Eric Steeves threw a complete game allowing one hit for the victory.

Game two saw the Cowboys defeat the Dundas Tigers by a score of 5-1.  Travis Helps threw a complete game to get the win.  Dylan Whitbread scored three of Wyoming’s five runs.

Game three was a matchup between two undefeated teams, the Cowboys and the Kingston Thunder.  Wyoming opened up a 3 to 0 lead in the first inning but couldn’t hold on as Kingston stormed back to win 6 to 4.  Eric Lupton took the loss for Wyoming.

Despite the loss, Wyoming moved on to the semi-finals against the undefeated Halton Hills Eagles.  Eric Steeves once again took the mound and tossed a one hitter leading Wyoming to a 2-1 victory.  He struck out 10 Halton Hills’ hitters.  Offensively, Tom Kerrigan and Kolton Knott led the way with two hits apiece.

The final game saw a rematch between Kingston and Wyoming.  Travis Helps took the mound for the Cowboys and held the Kingston hitters to three hits while allowing no runs.  Wyoming scored one run in the first inning and held on for the 1-0 victory. Helps and Tom Kerrigan had the only Wyoming hits.
