Annual Sydenham Canoe Race cancelled because of high water levels
April 26, 2019
The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) and St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation (SCRCF) have cancelled the annual Sydenham Canoe and Kayak Race which was scheduled for Sunday. This is the second year in a row the race was scrapped because of high water levels.
“Like many water ways in southern Ontario, the Sydenham River has been experiencing high levels and localized flooding,” said Sharon Nethercott, Race Coordinator in a news release, “As a result, water levels are unsafe for the race to take place.”
The annual race is recognized by the Ontario Marathon Canoe Kayak Racing Association and serves as a fundraiser to support conservation education programs delivered by the SCRCA. For more information regarding the canoe race, its cancellation, or conservation education programs offered by the SCRCA, please visit www.scrca.on.ca or contact Sharon Nethercott, Race Coordinator at (519) 882-2399 or [email protected].
