Jillian de Boer isn’t likely to remember her graduation from St. Patrick’s High School.

The Wyoming teen and her fellow graduates made the best of a bad situation with COVID-19 restrictions and had a drive-up graduation Saturday.
Students were assigned a time to be at the school, they came out of their car as their family watched, sanitized their hands, walked to a podium to pick up their diploma, moved to a mock stage for a few quick pictures and then headed back to their car and back home.

It was a bit of a blur, says de Boer adding “It was it was really windy so I was more focused on not losing my cap.”

Like most of the Class of 2020, this wasn’t what de Boer expected, but she says the St. Clair Catholic District School Board did a good job of making the day memorable.

“I was a little disappointed that prom was canceled, but there is enough people in my house that we could pretty much do prom.”
de Boer’s seven siblings dressed up and had a dance party on prom day.

“I honestly wasn’t disappointed there wasn’t grad because I had been to three so I kind of know how it works ..but they did a good job of creating new grad given the circumstances.”
