Sarnia man charged with murder in the 2019 death of a Corunna infant

August 21, 2020

Lambton OPP have announced an arrest in the killing of an infant child in Corunna last August.

Nathan Watson, 20 from Sarnia, was charged with second degree murder after being arrested on Thursday. He is accused of killing Liam Watson, who was just two months old at the time of his death. The boy is the son of Jessica Soney.

The Aug. 20 arrest came exactly a year to the day after a medical distress call for a little boy at a Corunna home. Lambton OPP, Lambton County paramedics, and the St. Clair Fire Department responded but despite their efforts the child died in hospital six days later.

A lengthy investigation was conducted by the Lambton OPP Major Crimes Unit, the OPP West Region Criminal Operations, and OPP Forensic Identification Services, which led to Nathan Watson’s arrest. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Sarnia court on Aug. 21.

It was not confirmed by police if there is a family connection between Nathan and Liam. An online obituary for Liam posted last year lists Nathan as his father.

Police are still asking anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact Lambton OPP Major Crime at 519-882-1011 or 1-888-310-1122. People can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
