Three outbreaks in Lambton senior homes in one day

January 1, 2021

We’re learning of three COVID-19 outbreaks in Lambton County senior homes.

The County of Lambton says there is an outbreak in one section of the county-run long term care home, Meadowview Villa, in Petrolia. Lambton Public Health says Village on the St. Clair Retirement Home and North Lambton Lodge are also both in outbreak.

At Meadowview Villa, Jane Joris, general manager of long term care in Lambton, says a staff member involved in direct resident care has tested positive for COVID-19. They had been working in the home Dec. 29, but were not symptomatic at the time. Residents on Finch Lane in the home are being tested today but Joris says no residents require isolation right now.

And Joris says one resident, who had not be at North Lambton Lodge and for a while, tested positive for the virus while in hospital. Pine Lane at the Forest home is now considered in outbreak. Residents are being tested; staff face mandated testing once a week.

And two staff members at Village on the St. Clair Retirement Home in Sarnia tested positive for COVID-19 Dec. 31.

There are now five outbreaks in long term care homes in Lambton. Pubic health said Thursday there were 11 workplace outbreaks and two outbreaks at schools as well.

Lambton Public Health and the provincial government do not release statistics on the total number of COVID-19 cases on statutory holidays. Dec. 31, there were 22 new cases of COVID-19 in Lambton and a record 3,328 in Ontario.
