Officials at North Lambton Lodge in Forest are ramping up COVID-19 testing in the home after a resident tested positive for the rapidly spreading virus.
Jane Joris, general manger of Lambton County’s Long Term Care Division, says the resident had been out of the home several days, in hospital, where they tested positive for the virus.
So far, no other residents are showing symptoms. Testing in the area the resident lives are now being tested. Staff must undergo weekly COVID-19 tests.
Lambton Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the home, in the Pine Lane area only.
“We are actively working with Lambton Public Health and following the guidance provided to us, in addition to diligently following the protocols and procedures put into place by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Long-Term Care,” says Joris.
North Lambton Lodge is home to 88 people, and employs almost 120 staff.
The elderly are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19. About 70 per cent of the deaths from COVID in Ontario were people in long term care.
