The side streets of Petrolia are dotted with garage sales.

After the annual spring yard sale was cancelled in town due to the COVID-19 lockdown, town officials declared July 23 and 24 Yard Sale Day. Families across the community have items scattered across the lawn waiting for new homes.

One feature of Yard Sale Days will be missing. Town officials say there will not be a large item pickup Monday. Normally, in April, the town schedules a pickup so people can get rid of what wasn’t sold.

Laurissa Ellsworth, director of marketing arts and communications for the town, says that wasn’t possible for this event. She asks residents to hold onto their goods until the fall.

And Ellsworth reminds people not simply to dump their extra items at the local St. Vincent De Paul – the charity doesn’t have the capacity for large donations and would have to pay to have the items removed.
